A Really Imaginative Title- Favorite Actors & Actresses

The majority of these topics are fairly subjective- they're all about me and my choices for favorite this and that. With this subject specifically it becomes a little more necessary for me to loosen up. Most people don't really have a favorite actor or actress mainly because there are so damn many of them and it's pretty difficult to narrow it down to just a couple. But that's what I do. I'm that kind of person.

Acting is hard. It really is. I'm not totally sold on the idea of certain actors being good or bad in everything. More often than not actors are simply miscast in specific roles because the producers think they'll help a movie make money or because they think they hear Oscar bells ringing in the background. And sometimes an actor just plain doesn't work right for whatever reason in a given movie. A random, but pretty good example in my opinion, would be the casting of Tobey Maguire or Ben Affleck in the respective superhero film-roles- Spiderman and Daredevil. I never in a million billion years could have imagined either one of them in any kind of superhero outfit. They're not bad actors per se. They're just not superhero material. Ben should stick to his low-key semi-melodramatic work and his directing. And Maguire should stick to...whatever it is he did before Spiderman. He's like Kristen Stewart (another good example here). Neither one is a leading actor/actress. Yes they're pleasant enough to look at, but they should be relegated to supporting performances only.

That being said- I really don't know what it is I see specifically in the actors that are my favorites. There aren't really any major similarities in terms of methods or styles or choice of roles. There's just something about each one of them I find very appealing and convincing and engrossing and just really really good in terms of quality acting.

Favorite Actors-

Runners-Up:

Tommy Lee Jones (In The Valley of Elah)

Martin Sheen (The West Wing)

Dustin Hoffman (Kramer Vs. Kramer)

Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica)

All-Around Favorite:

Philip Baker Hall (I can't pick one role for him, here's his two best- Secret Honor & Hard Eight)

Favorite Actresses

Runners-Up:

Jodie Foster (The Accused)

Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton; I Am Love is a very very close second best for her. Also I have yet to see We Need To Talk About Kevin, it is literally the next movie I'm going to watch today.)

Sissy Spacek (In the Bedroom)

All-Around Favorite:

& The Best Performance By An Actor/Actress In Any Movie Ever

Mary McDonnell (Passion Fish)

Note:

It should be said that there is another performance by another very very good actress who is not on here mainly because I've only seen her in one role. I believe she should essentially tie with Mary McDonnell in Passion Fish for giving probably the best performance I've seen in any movie ever by any actor or actress ever. The two are on the exact same level of perfection.

Oh, Lana Del Rey, You Got Such A Pretty Voice, But You Need To Amp Up the Lyrical Substance Of Your Songs...

This is very simple:

I don't play a lot of video games. At all.

I enjoy first-person shooters. They're easy and simple. I don't like my games ridiculously complicated in terms of story of controls. I wanna shoot and kill and drive and kill. That's it.

Here are the very few games I still play.

I only have an X-Box. Very old school. It works fine for me. I don't need an upgrade.

When I wanna play 360, I go to my brother's place and we do Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones and Halo 3. Because I don't technically own the 360, any games I play on it aren't gonna go on this list.

Favorite Video Games-

Black

Burnout 3: Takedown

Halo 2

Halo

I Don't Usually Like Short Stories...Or Poetry...Or Theatre

The title says it all- I'm not a huge fan of short stories, poetry, or theatre. I don't hate any of them, they're just not exactly my cup of tea. If they're done right, I love them all.

Here are just a couple of notes about the very few bits of each I do like...

Favorite Short Stories-

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

Favorite Poem-

The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

Favorite Plays-

There are several films I love/enjoy that are indeed based on plays, so this list is only going off of plays that I've read as plays or seen on stage. Romeo & Juliet is the only one that's going to get a repeat later when I analyze Franco Zeffirelli's film version and when I slam Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare

A Raisin In the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie

A Break After The Break

So, I haven't posted anything in like forever. Before I get back into doing legitimate (and ridiculously long) movie reviews and the like, I figured I'd just do some small postings about random things.
